Pinkie Pie Plush! by DoubleBackstitchArts Pinkie Pie Plush! by DoubleBackstitchArts
Finally finished her! Good Luna, she's the cutest little big thing I've ever made! She's 22 inches tall, hoof to crown, and taller including her mane. She's... well, half-scale to an Equestrian pony. She's made with Minky, and is completely 100% cuddleable. Plushcrafter tested, brony approved. Any questions, praises, critiques, or love letters can go right down there in the comments section.

Step 1: Look at reference pics from the show and vectors and stuff from lots of angles [link] [link]

Step 2: make the pattern like it looks, but a little bigger, using the stretch of the fabric to turn the 2D to 3D.

That's how I do it anyway. Hope that helps :D

I'm using minky which is known to stretch a lot so I'm going to put interfacing on it. Honestly the best I can do is probably cut her mane out of fabric and when I stuff it it will add dimention. However when I tried making a Rainbow Dash nothing I did would work because she has spikes in her hair and stuff, eventually I had to call in my mom who is awesome at sewing stuff. Should I stretch the template in the vertical direction then to account for the fabric going back towards the top and bottom?

Sorry it took so long for me to reply! Hmm... maybe just a touch, but I tend to just add an inch or two both perpendicular and parallel to the stretch, then adjust a little if necessary. Really, you can make a mane too big by a bit and still have it look alright. It only looks awful if it's too small, I say. Also, if I'm ever not sure how it'll look, I go ahead and make a test mane out of fleece, which is quite minky-like in how it behaves. Really, it's a lot of trial and error. I mean, have you seen my first RD mane? (Or really the whole pony...) [link] What a nightmare. > ,<
