Pinkie Pie Plush! by DoubleBackstitchArts Pinkie Pie Plush! by DoubleBackstitchArts
Finally finished her! Good Luna, she's the cutest little big thing I've ever made! She's 22 inches tall, hoof to crown, and taller including her mane. She's... well, half-scale to an Equestrian pony. She's made with Minky, and is completely 100% cuddleable. Plushcrafter tested, brony approved. Any questions, praises, critiques, or love letters can go right down there in the comments section.

I'm making a plushie and I have a good pony template but cant find a template for pinkie's mane and tail. What do?

Step 1: Look at reference pics from the show and vectors and stuff from lots of angles [link] [link]

Step 2: make the pattern like it looks, but a little bigger, using the stretch of the fabric to turn the 2D to 3D.

That's how I do it anyway. Hope that helps :D

I'm using minky which is known to stretch a lot so I'm going to put interfacing on it. Honestly the best I can do is probably cut her mane out of fabric and when I stuff it it will add dimention. However when I tried making a Rainbow Dash nothing I did would work because she has spikes in her hair and stuff, eventually I had to call in my mom who is awesome at sewing stuff. Should I stretch the template in the vertical direction then to account for the fabric going back towards the top and bottom?

Sorry it took so long for me to reply! Hmm... maybe just a touch, but I tend to just add an inch or two both perpendicular and parallel to the stretch, then adjust a little if necessary. Really, you can make a mane too big by a bit and still have it look alright. It only looks awful if it's too small, I say. Also, if I'm ever not sure how it'll look, I go ahead and make a test mane out of fleece, which is quite minky-like in how it behaves. Really, it's a lot of trial and error. I mean, have you seen my first RD mane? (Or really the whole pony...) [link] What a nightmare. > ,<

Wow! The attention to detail is stunning! I'd never think I would see a pony with CONCAVE hooves!
Do you think you could help me with making some pony plushies? I've made a Fluttershy one, but it didn't turn out to well. What I really need help on is the manes and the patterns for them.
Thanks!

And yeah, send me some pics (I couldn't find the plush when I browsed your gallery) and I'll see if I can whip up some constructive critique.

Its on my tumblr and I can make better now knowing what I know (b/c the plush is like 2 months old). The hair, ears and wings are all messed up. [link]
And made my own pattern and all. What would you suggest for more 3-d manes like Applejack or RD?

Really, most manes'n tails are a bit 3D. If you watch the show and get a side and front/back view, they're all more than just two dimensional. I'd say breathe a little life into them by adding some stuffing, and use reference images from multiple angles to figure out how you can make them work irl. Does that help any?

Uhhhh I can't say that it didn't?
I mean I still don't know how to do manes.

I'm not sure how to describe how to "do manes"... you take a look at what they look like in-show, then you think how that would look in a more flat shape, then you think how to make that flat shape a fillable pattern... it's something that comes more with practice, I think. I suggest making test manes out of scrap fabric before committing your good fabric to a final piece. It's all something that takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. I end up on average spending 80+ hours per pony...

Oh wow! I- I don't know what to say! Well, first I'd like to thank my mother, for teaching me how to sew. Then I'd like to thank my apprentice and dear friend, *Nazegoreng, for all the amazing support and help she's given me, and of course all the people who identify as my "fans", which I'm still trying to get used to that. I'd also like to thank my cat, for not peeing on Pinkie's fabric before she was put together. Of course, I'd like to thank the lovely ~iKittehs for nominating and presenting me this prestigious award, and I'd like to thank the Academy of Pony Plushies for unanimously voting me the winner of the Annual Pinkie Pie Plush Award! Thank you all, and have a good night! ^ ,^

Is she actually really pale or is she washed out a bit by the flash ?

I think she's one shade paler than she should be. I wasn't originally intending to sell her, so I let it slide that she was a little light, that and I didn't know where to get the really thick, plush minky I used for her mane in any other colors (I had to use the fabric I had on hand at the time). She's still very much a "Pinkie" Pie, just a touch lighter.

22 inches? I think that's more than half scale actually. Nice plush though. I might toss a few bids in :D

44 inches for life-sized [link] and 22 for half scale ; p
Calculated by the 8-ft-candy-cane principle XD
Reply
:iconearthenpony:
EarthenPony Featured By Owner Apr 27, 2013  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
Hmm. I find that scale flawed. Think of the candy cane like it were a piece of rope. An eight foot rope bent like a candy cane would actually only be about six feet tall, which I think is more accurate.

Who really knows for sure, but I base my headcannon off Applejack's size compared to the cows in episode four of season one. If the ponies are 44 inches tall, then those cows are freaking huge!
